Men’s Wedding Style Guide 2025

Men’s Wedding Style Guide 2025

Wedding Season is a highlight of every year, as couples come together to mark one of the most significant milestones in their lives. For grooms-to-be, it’s not just about the ceremony - it’s about looking and feeling your best on your special day. We are dedicated to helping you achieve just that.

Men’s wedding wear has evolved significantly through the years, with styles shifting to reflect ever-changing tastes and trends. From the timeless elegance of traditional morning wear, to classic black tie, Oliver Brown has a plethora of options to suit every groom’s personality and style.

Morning Wear

If you’re looking for that real touch of elegance, traditional morning wear is the most suitable option. Dating back to the early 19th century, morning wear was originally introduced as a form of dress to be worn for daytime events before 6pm. Influenced by British aristocracy, its wear quickly became a symbol of sophistication and refinement, particularly at weddings.

Morning wear continues to be the most traditional choice of attire worn by grooms at weddings, and Oliver Brown is proud to be leading experts in this style, offering one of the largest collections of morning wear in the UK.

Typically, morning wear consists of an evening tailcoat, black or grey  striped trousers, a shirt and double breasted waistcoat. The coat and trousers tend to complement muted tones, while you can be more creative with the colour of your waistcoat, incorporating blues, yellows, pinks and creams.

We offer a range of waistcoats to suit every preference, from  single breasted to double breasted styles, with a variety of colours, fabrics and accessories to create the ideal look. You can choose from a waistcoat in a  soft pink or powder blue to introduce a subtle pop of colour, a detail which can then be echoed by your groomsmen in their own attire for a stylish, coordinated touch that complements the wedding’s colour palette.

For more information on morning wear, please check out our Guide to Morning Wear video on YouTube, and explore our full morning wear collection on our website.

Black Tie

Black tie, a slightly more modern and versatile option than morning wear, continues to reign as one of the most popular choices of dress for grooms and guests alike, particularly for evening celebrations. Some may choose to change into this elegant style as they transition into the evening portion of their celebration, while others choose to begin their special day in this ensemble.

Originating in the late 19th century, Black tie was born out of the desire for a more relaxed yet still formal alternative to the white tie dress code. It continues to represent a standard of formality that is recognised worldwide.

We have a range of black tie options to suit every groom’s unique taste and vision for their wedding day. Our collection features various lapels, cuffs, single or double breasted styles, and fabrics, ensuring you can find the perfect combination. For those seeking a more traditional, classic look, a double breasted jacket is the way forward, while single breasted styles are ideal for grooms who prefer a more minimalist, sleek aesthetic.

White Dinner Jackets

Alternative to Black tie, a white dinner jacket is a striking choice for a groom looking to stand out amongst his groomsmen. Not only does it make a lovely option for matching the bride’s dress, but it is also a popular choice for stylish weddings, particularly in warmer climates. This look is especially striking in black and white photographs, making it an excellent choice for a sophisticated city wedding.

Personal Touch

When it comes to weddings, a large proportion of our clients choose to invest in a made-to-measure suit, collaborating closely with our expert team to bring their vision to life. We have endless options of fabrics and linings to choose from, from bright purples to green linen blends.

It’s important to consider your fabric carefully, as that plays a key role in both the look and comfort of your suit. Wool blends are always a great option for versatility and comfort, linen suits are great for summer weddings, though it’s worth noting that linen creases easily over time, so this should be considered when choosing your attire. By selecting the right fabric, you can ensure your suit aligns perfectly with the theme of the wedding overall. Opting for made-to-measure tailoring is a way of allowing you to add your own personal touch - book a fitting here.

The Wedding Lounge Suit

This year, for the first time, we are excited to introduce our exclusive wedding suit collection. Richard Fuller, general manager at Oliver Brown shares “this collection was created in response to the growing demand from our valued clients at our Mayfair store on Jermyn Street. We wanted to offer something truly special for those celebrating their most important day”.

The collection is available in three colours - Mid Grey, Royal Blue and Navy, each tailored in a classic three piece style in our Mayfair block. Featuring smoked mother-of-pearl buttons and a five-button waistcoat, these suits are crafted from Loro Piana Super 150’s finest fabric ensuring a luxurious feel. This collection promises elegance and style on your special day.

Accessories

For the finishing details, we offer a wide range of accessories to elevate and complement your chosen ensemble, from antique silk top hats to elegant bow ties and pocket squares. Boutonnieres always add a nice touch, and can be used to subtly reflect the colour palette of the wedding.

With that being said, it’s important to remember that less is always more when it comes to accessorising. A great suit speaks volumes in itself!

Above all, the most important thing is that you feel entirely confident and comfortable in what you choose to wear. Whether you lean towards a more traditional look, or opt for something more modern, make sure what you’re wearing reflects your authentic self.

Our collection is available for both hire and purchase, with options to shop online or in-store. We invite you to visit us for a personal fitting, where our expert team will ensure you find the perfect fit for your special day. Our stores are located in Chelsea, St James’s, City of London and Chester.
